(Albany, NY – Nov. 20, 2012) After earning two wins over ranked teams last weekend, the Colgate men’s hockey team swept all ECAC Hockey weekly awards with Robbie Bourdon and Spencer Finney taking home honors.
Bourdon took home the player of the week award, while Finney was chosen as both the goalie of the week and rookie of the week.
Bourdon had his second four-point night of the season in the 5-4 come-from-behind win over No. 12 Dartmouth. He tallied his first-career hat trick and added an assist for four points. His first goal was shorthanded in the second period to cut the Big Green lead to 3-1. He then added a pair of third period goals to earn the hat trick, including the game-winner with three seconds left. He dove to the puck on a rebound to slip it into the net for the winner. He assisted on the game-tying goal by Joe Wilson, finishing the period with three points.
Finney earned his first two collegiate wins over the weekend without giving up a goal. He played the third period against No. 12 Dartmouth and allowed Colgate to erase a three-goal deficit to win 5-4. He returned to the net Saturday in his third start and pushed aside 25 shots to earn his first-career shutout against No. 17 Harvard. He was the first Raiders rookie to record a shutout since assistant coach Jason Lefevre did it in 1999. He becomes the second Colgate student-athlete to win Rookie of the Week honors this season.
Finney has not surrendered a goal in his last four periods, all of which came this past weekend and had his first two wins of his career come against ranked opponents. He made a couple of great saves in the final seconds to preserve the shutout against the Crimson.
Colgate will be in action this coming Friday as the Raiders travel to Merrimack for a 4 p.m. faceoff.
