(Utica, NY – Dec. 2012) The 8th Annual New York Sash Teddy Bear Toss is Saturday, Dec. 1 as the Utica College Men’s Hockey team takes on Buffalo State at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. The event is a holiday toy drive from New York Sash and Utica College Hockey and sponsored by Assured Information Securities.

Game attendees are asked to bring a donation of a new teddy bear or stuffed animal. When the first Utica College goal is scored and the buzzer rings fans throw the teddy bears onto the ice. Thousands of teddy bears will rain down to be collected by New York Sash. Last year 4,500 toys were collected and since its beginning, the New York Sash Teddy Bear Toss has been able to donate over 15,000 toys to the community. This year, New York Sash owner Scot Hayes has partnered up with Operation Sunshine to distribute the teddy bears directly to local families in need this holiday season. “Keeping the toys local is important to everyone involved. We want to make a difference in the community where we live” said Hayes.

In 2011, the Teddy Bear Toss game sold out the Utica Memorial Auditorium for the first time in Utica College history and hundreds of fans were turned away. Game tickets are already selling rapidly for the 2012 event and Coach Gary Heenan predicts a sell out before game day. Fans are encouraged to reserve their seats early by purchasing tickets at the Utica Memorial Auditorium Box Office or through Ticketmaster.

Hayes asks that donated teddy bears are in new condition. Game time is 7pm, but plan on arriving early. In 2009, the toss occurred only 1:28 into the first period and some late fans missed out.

For fans not able to make it into the Auditorium the Celtic Harp on Varick Street and Babe’s Macaroni Grill & Bar on Genesee Street in Utica are hosting Teddy Bear Toss viewing parties. Both locations will be airing the game and giving drink specials to Utica College Hockey fans who donate to the toy drive. The game will also be broadcast for the first time ever on Time Warner Cable.
