Meet our little man Owen. Owen is a 7 – 8 year old Chihuahua mix that came into our shelter as a stray. He is not a “cat person” or a “kid person.” The best home for this boy will be an older family that wants a dog who will want nothing more than to be by your side or on your lap! He does like to take a walk, so as the weather warms up a bit, he will make a good walking companion. If you think this beautiful boy will fit into your life, please come by Wanderers’ Rest to meet him or call 315.697.2796 for more information.

Meet senior boy Kelvin. Kelvin is a dignified gentleman who is declawed in the front. He is 9 years old and a real lovebug! Kelvin is good with children, other cats, dogs and strangers. Kelvin is an indoor-only cat who would love a sunny spot on your floor to call his own. If you might be interested in this lover of a cat, come to the Community Cat Room in Wanderers’ Rest to meet him, or call 315.697.2796 for more information.

Wanderers’ Rest Humane Association NewsOWENKELVIN

(Town of Lenox, NY – Jan. 2013) Wanderers’ Rest Humane Association, 30 years strong, is an open-admission shelter in Canastota that serves more than 1,000 cats and dogs each year. Wanderers’ Rest accepts unwanted or stray dogs and cats from Madison County, but is open to all Central New Yorkers who wish to adopt a dog or cat.

Wanderers’ Rest was founded in 1981 by a group of citizens who wanted to do more than impound stray animals in Madison County. Their vision for a comprehensive humane organization emphasized caring for and preparing homeless cats and dogs for adoption. Today Wanderers’ Rest Humane Association shelters, heals and enriches the lives of up to 1,500 cats and dogs each year.

The organization finds new homes for unwanted animals, reunites lost pets with their families, and supports low-income families with spay/neuter assistance and emergency pet food to enable them to afford and keep their pets. Educational programs in area schools emphasize spaying and neutering and responsible pet ownership for the next generation of pet-lovers.

Through its public education programs, the shelter promotes responsible pet ownership and humane treatment of animals everywhere. Wanderers’ Rest is a non-profit, 501c3 organization that welcomes contributions and volunteers. Call (315) 697-2796 or visit www.wanderersrest.org.
