Bookstore hosts party in honor of author’s birth anniversary

(Hamilton, NY – Feb. 2013) The Colgate Bookstore will host a Dr. Seuss Party from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, in the Class of 2003 Events Room (third floor) at 3 Utica St. The celebration is free and open to children of all ages, although the stories and activities are mainly geared toward ages 3-8.

The fun will begin as special guests the Cat in the Hat and Things 1 and 2 present a dramatic reading of a Dr. Seuss story and then pose for photos. Children will then make a Seuss-themed craft and play a choice of party games. Cupcakes will be served as a snack and every child who attends will receive a balloon and party favors.

Dr. Seuss is the pen name of beloved children’s author Theodore Seuss Geisel, who was born on March 2, 1904. He wrote 46 children’s books, including the best-selling Green Eggs & Ham, The Cat in the Hat and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Geisel’s birthday, March 2, has been adopted as the annual date for National Read Across America Day, an initiative created by the National Education Association to promote reading to children.
