New nature programs for children and adults planned

(Canastota, NY – March 2013) Planning is well underway for the 12th annual Spring Migration Festival at the Great Swamp Conservancy May 4 and 5. Board members met Tuesday March 5 to finalize committees and detail plans for this yearly fundraising event.

This year’s featured artist is Claudia Loomis Chandler, a multitalented artist from Crogan. Also exhibiting and selling fine art are GSC board members Jack Cotton and Tom Lenweaver. More applications are arriving daily.

Talons, will show their birds of prey and demonstrate falconry and several new wild animal exhibits that will be hands on experiences for children of all ages will showcase.

According to Rusty Patane of the GSC, this is going to be the best year ever, with more artists and fine crafters, new animal programs, new nature programs for children and adults, new and different exhibits.

Susan Jones, certified naturalist and Federal Park Ranger from Remsen will present several nature programs introducing the public to several Citizen Science projects, including Frog Watch USA.
