Barton & Loguidice design earns recognition at ceremony

(Town of Lincoln, NY – May 2013Solar cover toursolar array) Madison County’s Solar panels are in the news once again, receiving recognition from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of New York.

Barton & Loguidice, P.C. of Syracuse received the Platinum Award, in the Environmental Category, for designing Madison County’s Landfill Solar Cover during the (ACEC) gala reception and awards ceremony held in the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria in New York City on April 6.

The 46th annual Engineering Excellence Awards is an evening set aside to recognize the many achievements of New York’s world-class consulting engineering firms. EEA project entries are viewed annually by a distinguished panel of judges on the basis of uniqueness and originality; technical value to the engineering profession; social and economic considerations and success in meeting client goals. In 2013, 123 projects were honored, with 26 Diamond Awards and 97 Platinum, Gold and Silver awards presented.

In 2011, the Solar Array was selected by the Central New York Branch of the American Public Works Association to receive the Environmental Project of the Year Award.

The solar array has been visited by engineers, scientist and environmental journalist from Australia, Ecuador and Russia; not to mention local dignitaries and approximately 3,000 college students, high school and grade school students and civic organizations since completion. Feature stories on the landfill solar array have also been published in the Albany Times Union and the NYS Conservationist magazine.

The solar array provides 50 percent of the electrical power to run the ARC Recycling Center at the Buyea Road Landfill site.
