(Canastota, NY – Aug. 2013) Canastota High School FBLA student, Derick Trost, recently completed his mandatory Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Officer Training in Greenwich, NY held from July 21 to 26. Trost will serve as the State Vice President for District 7.

District 7 includes Herkimer, Madison and Oneida Counties.

Trost was elected to his position last April in Rochester at the New York State FBLA Leadership Conference.  During State Officer Training, he worked vigorously with the entire State Officer Team to accomplish their requirements for the week. Together the officers worked on the New York State theme, charity and program of work for the year.  During the week, officers gave speeches and presentations and attended leadership workshops on topics such as Plan of Action, Business Communications, Accountability, Public Speaking and Effective Presentations, Parliamentary Procedure and other leadership related topics.

New this year, a joint meeting was held with representatives from other Career and Technical Student Leadership Organizations, where state officers from other groups discussed their common goals and direction for the future.

On Nov. 1, Trost will coordinate the Fall District Meeting for District 7 to be hosted by the Utica School of Commerce in Utica.  More than 200 area members generally attend that meeting.  The 2013-2014 New York State FBLA theme is “Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence.”  This year marks New York State’s 50th anniversary as a state association.  The officers also voted to support the March of Dimes as their state charity. DERICK
