Boy Scouts(Aug. 2013) Get your popcorn! Now through November, local Cub and Boy Scout units in Oneida, Herkimer, Madison, Lewis and Otsego counties are selling popcorn, and there is something for everyone from our Way Chocolatey Treasures Tin to classic trail mix. And for those watching their weight, there are even 100-calorie snack pack Individual boxes.  Packages and themed/seasonal collector tins start at $10.

According to Mike Donaghue, Scout Executive of Revolutionary Trails Council, “We genuinely appreciate the community’s support for our Scouts. The funds that they raise now will help them plan activities for the year.” He adds, “Anyone who doesn’t want to wait for ordered popcorn, many units will be selling items outside of locations such as Lowes, Home Depot, Stewarts, Wal-Mart and other large stores.”

This annual council-wide fundraiser assists local units in raising money for summer resident or day camps, adventures, supplies, registration fees and advancement badges.  Monies raised at the council level contribute to valuable programs such as Scout Reach, a program that provides support to individuals, training volunteers to be better Scouts, and sustaining camp facilities.

The Boy Scouts of America prepares youth for the future and ensures that integrity and personal responsibility are woven into the fabric of our community. Valuable character building and leadership programs are made possible through partnerships with over 180 churches, schools, civic organizations, and businesses as well as the dedication of over 3,000 adult volunteers and Friends of Scouting.

Anyone who loves popcorn is asked to support a local Scout unit. If you can’t find a pack or troop in your area, call the Scout Service Center at (315) 735-4437 or stop in at 1401 Genesee Street in Utica. Staff can provide you with a local troop contact or help you place an order.
