(Oneida, NY – April 2014) During spring break, elementary and middle-school students can stop by Oneida Public Library for two distinct programs: Bento Boxes on Tuesday April 15 at 2 p.m. and Legopalooza on Thursday April 17 at 2 p.m.

Bento Boxes offers adventurous young teens a chance to put together their own special lunch box with colorfully shaped and decorated edibles. In Japan, the bento box is a staple takeout or home-cooked meal for one in a box.

Japanese typically fill a bento box with rice, fish or meat and vegetables. In America, bento boxes have become popular with a variety of selected foods, each one chosen to highlight the other in color and taste. Some cooks even fill the box with sculpted foods based on popular themes.

Both boxes and edibles will be provided.

On April 17, OPL dishes up thousands of Lego pieces in a fun-filled program called Legopalooza for students of all ages. The OPL is keen to encourage budding engineers in the younger generation and has teamed up with the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome to promote a local branch of the national FIRST LEGO League.

For more information, stop by the Oneida Library, 220 Broad St., or call 363-3050.
