(Hamilton, NY – July 2014) Colgate Athletics is teaming up with the Colgate Bookstore to host the inaugural “Read with the Raiders” event on July 19 at noon at the Colgate Bookstore, Class of 2003 Events Room, 3rd Floor.

 

The event is free for children ages 3-13. Fans will be able to listen to stories read by Colgate’s very own student-athletes. There will also be pizza, craft activities, giveaways, and the opportunity to meet Raider himself! Plus, the afternoon will include an autograph session and the chance to sign up for the 2014-15 Junior Raiders fan club.

The student-athletes and Raider are looking forward to having a great turnout for this new event held downtown at 3 Utica Street and encourage participants to bring along friends.

Hamilton Book and Movie Club announces Summer 2014 season
(Hamilton, NY – July 2014) The Colgate Bookstore and Hamilton Theater announce the Summer 2014 season of the Hamilton Book & Movie Club, beginning on Thursday July 24 at 5:30 p.m.  The theme of the season is “Island Getaways” featuring movies set on islands and the books they were adapted from. The selected books/movies for the Summer 2014 (July-September) season are as follows:

July 24 – Jurassic Park – Novel by Michael Crichton; 1993 movie starring Sam Neill and Laura Dern

On Isla Nublar, scientists have cloned dinosaurs. Now creatures from extinct eons roam Jurassic Park – a theme park which hopes to open to the public. A paleontologist, a paleobotanist, a mathematician, and a lawyer are brought in to consult and sign off on the project… but something goes wrong.

August 21 – Somewhere in Time – Novel by Richard Matheson; 1980 movie starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour

Playwright Richard Collier travels to the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island and becomes smitten with the photograph of a young actress from years gone by. He soon becomes obsessed with the idea of traveling back in time to meet her.

September 25 – Jaws – Novel by Peter Benchley; 1975 movie starring Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss

In the waters off Amity Island, a summer resort town, two people die by shark attack. Police Chief Brody enlists the help of marine biologist Hooper and professional shark hunter Quint in an attempt to track and kill the creature before it can do more harm.
