SVFD for webAnnual event scheduled for July 27 in Peterboro

(Peterboro, Ny – July 2014) The small fire house in Peterboro now shows little evidence of its recent national attention and the magnitude of the heroic, life-threatening service given by the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department during recent tragedies in the Town of Smithfield.  But the fire house will soon be bustling once again as the fire department serves its community in yet another way – by bringing it together in celebration of its hometown. Peterboro has much to remember this Hometown Day: the mourning of its losses and the recognition of its blessings.

The Annual Peterboro Hometown Day will be held in Peterboro Sunday July 27. The day will start at 8:30 a.m. with free coffee and donuts for community members at the Gerrit Smith Estate National Historic Landmark.

Free activities and exhibits will open On-the-Green at 10 a.m. and continue to 4 p.m. The Deli on the Green will open at 11 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. The Fire Department chicken barbeque will be ready at noon and sold until it is gone.

The Crystal Kay Dancers will perform at 1 p.m. The Gerrit Smith Estate National Historic Landmark, the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum, and the Peterboro Mercantile will open with free admission at 1 p.m. and the Peterboro Area Museum will open at 2 p.m.

At 6:45 p.m. the Peterboro United Methodist Church will begin serving pie and ice cream on the lawn in front of the Peterboro Area Museum and the Canastota Community Band Concert will follow on the lawn at 7 p.m. with the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department announcements throughout the evening.

If ever there were a year to bring families to Peterboro and lawn chairs to the concert, 2014 is the year!
