(Cazenovia, NY – July 2014) More than 50 students from all over New York State and Ontario, Canada will arrive in Cazenovia Friday, July 25 to begin two days of singing and performing  at the first ever Lakeside A Cappella Camp.

The only camp of its kind in New York, co-ed campers will be immersed in all aspects of a cappella singing and performing, as well as introduced to the world of barbershop singing.  Barbershop, hailed by Deke Sharon (Pitch Perfect, The Sing-off, and founder of the Contemporary A cappella Society) as “the black belt of a cappella music,” is a uniquely American art-form of 4-part a cappella singing championed by Harmony, Inc., Sweet Adelines International, and the Barbershop Harmony Society.

The weekend will culminate at 7 p.m. Saturday July 26 with a public performance at Cazenovia High School Auditorium. The showcase will feature music the students have learned especially for camp. The public performance will also include performances from some of the best regional and national quartets, including Blueprint (BHS internationally qualifying quartet), For Heaven’s Sake (1996 Harmony Inc. International Quartet Champions) and two quartets from the Spirit of Syracuse Chorus.

Clinicians for the camp included some of the best known and respected personalities in the barbershop world, including Joe Connelly, 4-time, international gold medalist of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Connelly, considered a superstar of the barbershop world, has been director of several award-winning choruses, tours actively with his current champion quartet and is a sought-after coach for quartets and choruses throughout the world.

Lakeside A Cappella Camp also welcomes Katie Taylor, 2-time International Quartet Champion of Harmony, Inc. having won in 1996 with For Heaven’s Sake and again with U4X in 2008.  She regularly coaches winning quartets and choruses in both Harmony, Inc. and the Barbershop Harmony Society.
