(Orwell, NY – July 2014) The First Rose of Summer, a novel by Eileen K. Parsons of Orwell, NY, was recently awarded 2014 New York Book Festival Runner Up honors. Parsons received the award at the Grolier Club, founded in 1884, in New York City in June as part of an evening honoring festival winners.

Less than five percent of the entries in the New York Book Festival competition receive recognition by the judging panel of authors, publishers, journalists, agents, directors and others committed to supporting the literary community.

The First Rose of Summer is about how the strong moral character and faith of a young woman impacts the life of a young financial manager living a fast-paced, expensive lifestyle also earned Honorable Mention at both the 2013 Los Angeles Book Festival and the March 2014 Great Southeast Book Festival.

Born in Watertown, Eileen lives in Orwell with her husband Eric.
