Cazenovia Public Library news

(Cazenovia, NY – Aug. 2014) Through Sept. 30, visitors to the Cazenovia Public Library Art Gallery will enjoy a remarkable exhibition of paintings and drawings by Cazenovia artist Rick Marchant. The reflections on an old truck’s windshield, the geometric arrangement of Maine row boats, the randomness of fallen leaves on water and close-up studies of cows are all subjects captured convincingly by Marchant.

Although he and his wife, Anna, are relatively new to the Cazenovia area, Marchant is not new to the world of fine art. He earned a BFA from Wilkes University and taught art at Norwich High School for 32 years, where he was also department chairperson and varsity swim coach.

During his career, Marchant taught all facets of art – drawing and painting, ceramics, sculpture and photography – and personally won awards for his own paintings and pencil drawings.

“Everything I’m interested in is available here,” Marchant said when asked about Cazenovia. “The community has many artists, there are numerous opportunities to exhibit, and the architecture is terrific. Moving here was the perfect thing to do.”

On behalf of the Cazenovia Arts group, the Marchants manage the art display at Dave’s Diner and have met many new friends in the community because of their involvement.

Spiderman to be Screened

The summer movie schedule at the library wraps up Friday, Aug. 29, at 2 and 6 p.m. with The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

In this film, Peter Parker finds that being Spiderman comes at a price, namely that he alone can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. Confronting a foe far more powerful than he is, Spiderman runs the gauntlet while the mysterious company Oscorp sends up a slew of super villains against him (Imdb).

Based on the Marvel comic book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is rated PG-13 and runs for two hours and 17 minutes. As always, admission and popcorn are free.

Mark your calendars: Draft Day at 2 and 7 p.m. Sept. 5, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier at 2 and 6 p.m. Sept. 12, at 2 and 6 p.m.

The Library Art Gallery is open during normal library hours – 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. For more information on these or other events at the Cazenovia Public Library, call 315.655.9322 or visit www.cazenoviapubliclibrary.org.
