(Hamilton, NY – Aug. 2014) How can you “upcycle” to help the library? By donating your gently used books, CDs, and DVDs for our annual book sale, by shopping at the book sale or volunteering your time and talents to help this event run smoothly, the community can collectively reuse the materials you’re finished with, giving them new life.

Additionally, the proceeds from the book sale enable the Friends of the Library to help support our library programs, facilities and resources above and beyond our basic operating capabilities, using your donated items to further elevate the quality experiences provided through the Hamilton Public Library.

Thanks to your generosity last year, donations to the Friends of the Library along with the proceeds from the Friends’ 2013 book sale helped the library to update our digital technology systems in the Community Room, purchase a commercial-grade vacuum cleaner for the library, provide refreshments for our many library-sponsored programs and events and provide copies of the Book Page booklet free of charge to our patrons each month.

We hope that through your support of our up-coming 2014 book sale and generous financial donations throughout the year, combined with your giving of time and talents through volunteer opportunities, you will continue to help the Friends of the Library enhance our library services and offerings for the community.

We are very appreciative of your support and generosity, and look forward to seeing you at the book sale Aug. 29 and 30. Additional donations may also be mailed to the library in care of the Friends of the Library or simply click the “donate” button located in the menu on the right side of the Hamilton Public Library website.

All of us at the Hamilton Public Library truly appreciate your consideration and generosity. With your continued support, we can do so much.

We hope you’ll stop by between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, or between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30. Come join in the fun, find wonderful treasures that are “new to you,” and help support the library. It’s a wonderful event, and a good time is had by all.

Many thanks to our Friends of the Library, particularly Carolyn Dearnaley, and all the volunteers who help lend a hand to make this such a successful event each year.

Daisies, dahlias and nasturtiums, oh, my! The butterfly garden behind the library is in full bloom. Feel free to stop by and enjoy this public garden in the heart of the village. Linger on the bench for a bit, and enjoy the oasis lovingly planted and tended by our story time families and community volunteers. While you’re there, you may even see a butterfly enjoying the fuchsia-colored flowers of the butterfly bush.

In observance of Labor Day, the library will be closed Monday, Sept. 1. We will resume our regular hours the following day.
