(Morrisville, NY – Aug. 22, 2014) For the ninth consecutive year, Morrisville State College student-athletes provided a helping hand to new students with move-in, as the college welcomed its freshmen class Thursday.

More than 200 student-athletes from five fall Mustang athletic teams took part in assisting students with moving into their dorms, along with several head and assistant coaches throughout the day.

“It’s a great chance to meet new freshmen and bond with my team,” said Jessica Chandler, a sophomore volleyball player that hails from Morrisville-Eaton High School.

Members of the field hockey, football, women’s soccer, volleyball and men’s soccer team shared some friendly smiles and made the process for parents and their students, a little less stressful and more enjoyable.

Jacob Chase (Cooperstown, N.Y.) is a senior with the men’s soccer program and has been involved with the efforts for the past three years. Like Chandler, he said it’s an opportunity to get to know some of his freshmen teammates, but also to assist new students on a day that can be somewhat overwhelming.

“It’s a great opportunity to meet some of the incoming class, but also to be able to answer any questions they need help with, and to hopefully give them a good first experience at Morrisville State,” he said.

Last year Morrisville State student-athletes logged more than 1,290 hours across 23 different community service endeavors.
