schoolhouse(Oneida, NY – Sept. 3, 2014) Oneida City Police remind area motorists to be alert to kids walking to and from school, crossing roadways and school busses stopping to pick up and drop off passengers as school starts Thursday Sept. 4.

Motorist must stop for a stopped school bus that has its red lights in operation indicating the bus is stopped to pick up or drop off students. This includes school driveways, private roads or divided highways. With increased traffic motorist should allow themselves additional time in their drive to work.

All school zones in the City of Oneida are posted at 20 mph limit, which is in effect on all school days from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Crossing Guards will be on the posts listed below from 8 to 9 a.m. and 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. On early dismissal dates the guards will be on post for one hour from time of dismissal. Crossing Posts; Broad and Walnut, Main and Walnut, Elizabeth and Walnut, East Ave at Elizabeth Street, Seneca Street School, N. Broad St. at Allen and N. Main by the N. Broad St. School.

On Sept. 6 and 7 Grove Street between Main and Elizabeth will be closed except for local traffic during the Madison County Historical Society Craft Days. Elizabeth Street from Walnut to the south end will be posted and restricted to parking on one side to allow for emergency vehicle access and traffic flow.
