Mike Allen's Eagle

(Sherburne, NY – Sept. 2014) The Chenango Bird Club presents “Return of the Bald Eagle” on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. at Rogers Environmental Education Center’s Visitor Center.

Retired Senior Wildlife Technician, Mike Allen will describe his role in New York’s bald eagle restoration since that program’s fledgling stages in the mid 1970s.

Allen retired from the DEC (New York State Department of Environmental Conservation) in October 2009 where he had worked since the late summer of 1975. He became involved with New York State’s pioneering bald eagle restoration program in September of that year and had responsibility for monitoring eagles in western New York. When the New York eagle effort began, only one active bald eagle nest was known to exist in all of the Empire State. Now, there are more than 300 eagle nesting territories within New York’s borders.

Refreshments will be served following his presentation.

Prior to Allen’s presentation, the Chenango Bird Club will have a short business meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend all or part of the evening’s activities.

The Chenango Bird Club presents monthly programs (except January, February, and March). Nature enthusiasts of all levels and interests are invited to all Chenango Bird Club programs, free of charge. Rogers Center is located one mile west of Sherburne Village on State Highway 80. Park in the main parking lot and follow the paved walkway across the Ice Pond Bridge and curve to the right to the Visitor Center.
