Graduation cap greenCall of Cazenovia Named RIT Outstanding Undergraduate Scholar

(Cazenovia, NY – Sept. 2014) Emily Call, daughter of Harold Call of Utica, and Andrea Call of Cazenovia, was named a 2013-14 Outstanding Undergraduate Scholar during a ceremony April 10 at Rochester Institute of Technology. Emily is a fourth-year student in the ASL-English Interpretation – BS program in RIT’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf.

Outstanding Undergraduate Scholarship Awards are presented to students who have achieved the distinction of maintaining a minimum university grade point average of 3.85 out of a possible 4.0 and completed at least 125 quarter credit hours of study, nearly two-thirds of the credit hours required for a baccalaureate degree. Selection is also based on other factors complementing academic achievement, such as creative work, service on student committees, civic activities, employment and independent research.

Each RIT scholar receives a bronze medallion representing the traditional symbols for wisdom and respect: the Athenian owl and the olive branch.

Nazareth College Students Inducted into Society

Nazareth College students recently inducted into the national economics honor society Omicron Delta Epsilon. Among them was Jack Giles of Chittenango.

Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi Inducts New Members

The following local residents recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines:

Jessica Jarett of Cazenovia, Nicholas Munoff of Chittenango and Luke Newton of Oneida were all initiated into the SUNY Oswego chapter.

These residents are among approximately 32,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors, having at least 72 semester hours, are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff, and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

Students Inducted into English Honorary Society

The following students have been inducted into Irving Bacheller Society, St. Lawrence University English Department’s honorary society:

Danielle M. Capirci of Hamilton, a member of the class of 2015 at St. Lawrence, is majoring in English. Capirci graduated from Hamilton Central School.

Hannah C. Chanatry of Cazenovia, a member of the class of 2015 at St. Lawrence, is majoring in English and performance and communications arts. Chanatry graduated from Cazenovia High School.

Residents Earn Dean’s List Honors at Saint Joseph’s University

Bryan Sheridan of Oneida, majoring in Food Marketing, earned dean’s list honors for the fall 2013 semester at Saint Joseph’s University. Students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or above, a B or greater in all their classes, and complete at least 15 credits to earn Dean’s List status for a semester.

Binghamton University Students Receive Academic Honors

Amos Earns Degree

Autumn Amos of Chittenango received a bachelor’s degree during the 2014 Commencement Ceremonies of Hobart and William Smith Colleges held May 18. Amos, the child of Heather Hunt, majored in Psychology.
