(Oneida, NY – Sept. 2014) The Oneida Public Library and The Arc of Madison Cortland are teaming up on several initiatives that will bring awareness to both organizations.

“We are so proud to be working with the library,” said Jack Campbell, Executive Director for The Arc. “For years the Oneida Public Library has offered literacy classes and enrichment to people with disabilities. It’s our way of giving back.”

The Arc offers a bottle and can redemption center on Farrier Avenue, Oneida, ABC Redemption Center, which helps to support The Arc.  ABC Redemption Center will now be the collection site for anyone who would like to contribute to the Oneida Public Library. Patrons of ABC Redemption may turn their bottles and cans in and request that the proceeds support the Oneida Public Library. ABC Redemption Center is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Arc’s Day Habilitation Program will also be helping the library by distributing its monthly newsletter to local businesses, schools, churches, and other public buildings throughout the Oneida Public Library’s district.

“Helping our community is important to The Arc,” said Fran Burnham, The Arc’s operation director. “It provides an opportunity to strengthen our skills while helping others.”

During the month of November the Oneida Public Library will be hosting a photography exhibit that features photographs of Madison County farm scenes taken by students of The Arc’s Photography class. The subject of farm scenes compliments the Mid York Library Systems Grassroots Read Program. Photographs will feature local barns, fields, animals, among other subject matter. A date for an artist’s reception will be announced.

“This collaboration with The Arc provides an invaluable service to the Oneida Public Library especially in the midst of a capital campaign,” said Carol Butler, Capital Campaign project coordinator for Oneida Public Library. “It also demonstrates the importance of the library for all members of our community.”
