(Morrisville, NY – Oct. 2014) The Morrisville State College men’s soccer program brought in more than $1,000 in donations for the local Eaton, Morrisville and Peterboro American Youth Soccer Organization group last Saturday, as they hosted Bryn Athyn College on the Mustang campus.

Proceeds from prize raffles, ticket sales and a flat-screen television raffle, combined with general gifts from the day were donated directly to the program that fields four youth teams in the surrounding area for children under 12 years of age.

“The event was a great chance for our guys to give back to the local community while forging what we hope to be an ongoing relationship with the Morrisville AYSO,” said head coach Kyle Graves.

Children from the U-6 team joined the Mustangs during the team walk-out and starting line-up introductions. At halftime, all four levels were involved in an exhibition match on the stadium field.

“Our hope is that we can continue to grow the relationship and support them again in the future,” Graves said.

“Playing soccer here, it’s not just about the team, it’s not just about the school, it’s about the community,” senior captain Brian Culkin added. “And [the community has] done nothing but show their support for us, so it was important for us to do the same for them.”

The men’s soccer program has been actively involved in community service throughout the year. Earlier in August, they assisted new students on move-in day and, in previous years, have participated in reading programs at the local elementary school, as well as additional fundraising events for charitable, not-for-profit organizations.
