(Morrisville, NY – Oct. 2014) At 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, we are having our annual Halloween party. Wear your costumes and join us for a spooky celebration. We will not only announce the winners of the pumpkin coloring contest, but play fun and games and make cool crafts, too.

Tai Chi Chuan Class meets at 6:30 Monday, Oct. 27 and Nov. 10. Join MSC Professor Bill Snyder as he facilitates this internal Chinese martial art. This is a free program.

Kiddies Korner, our preschool story hour is in full swing; join us at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, for books and a craft about Halloween; if you can’t make that day, come hear stories about Sleepy Time at 9:45 Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Join us at 12:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, for our next book talk, Where’d You Go, Bernadette? by Maria Semple. Stop in and get your copy now, and don’t forget to bring your lunch.

On Wednesday, Nov. 5, we will have a presentation on Intro to Free & Open Source Software at 6:30 p.m. Not know what free or open source software is? Want to know what is out there for free to use? This is the program for you. Join James Nutt from Odd Job Computing as he shows us. If you have a laptop, or other Internet-enabled device (i.e., smart phone, e-reader, Kindle, etc.) bring it. If you don’t, that’s fine, too; this is open to those 12 and older.

At 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, we will be showing the movie, Deliver Us From Evil. We provide the popcorn; just bring your own beverage. The library closes at 8 p.m., so if you have library business to attend to, come early. The movie will end after closing. NOTE: This movie is a horror movie and rated R. We will NOT let anyone under the age of 17 view the movie without a parent/guardian OR a note from your parent saying that it’s okay to watch.

November calendar of events

Library Closures: The library will be closed Tuesday, Nov. 11, to observe Veteran’s Day and Thursday, Nov. 27, through Sunday, Nov. 30, for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Giving Tree Fundraiser: Shop for the library this holiday season from Saturday, Nov. 1 through Saturday, Jan. 31. We have several items the library needs; it’s easy – grab a Christmas tag off our giving tree of something you would like to donate to the library. Buy it, donate it, whatever it says, and bring the tag and the item in as soon as you can; we would like all donations turned in by Feb. 28.

Lights on the Lake Fundraiser: We are raffling off three car passes to Lights on the Lake in Liverpool from Monday, Nov. 3 through Monday, Nov. 24; stop in and get your ticket(s) today ($15 value). Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Start or continue a holiday tradition with us; drawing will be held the evening of Nov. 24; need not be present to win.

Kiddies Korner: Bring your preschool child in to hear some stories about sleepy time at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Blizzard of ’88 (1888 that is): Join village and town historian Sue Greenhagen as she shares the story of an epic snowstorm that struck the East Coast in March of 1888 and its effects downstate, as well as here in Central New York, at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14.

Kiddies Korner: Bring your preschool child in to hear stories about bath time and bubbles at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18. We will be reading stories and making a bubbly craft to take home.

Library Trustees Board Meeting: The Library Board meets at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Book Talk: On Friday, Nov. 21, at 12:15 p.m., we will be discussing the book, The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman. Stop in and get your copy now then join us for a discussion; don’t forget to bring your lunch.

Family Movie Night: We are showing the movie, Maleficent, at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21. We provide the popcorn; you bring your own beverage. Bring the family in for this “sure-to-be-enlightening” movie.

Kiddies Korner: Bring the little ones in for our preschool story hour at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25. We will be reading about books we are thankful for.

Utica Zoomobile: The Utica Zoo will be bringing a few of their animals for us to see, learn about and touch at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26. Bring the family in for a good time with these animals.

Michelle Rounds is library manager for the Morrisville Public Library. The library is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from noon to 8 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
