Morris head newThe Musings of a Simple Country Man

By Hobie Morris

(Brookfield, NY – Dec. 2014) My beautiful wife Lois and I are shocked.  A mysterious benefactor will begin depositing in our bank account the staggering sum of $86,400.  Not just today, but every day.  There are however two strings attached:  you must try to spend the entire sum that day.  The balance not spent is forever gone.  Secondly, the benefactor can end this spending game at any time by closing our account.

How can this simple country couple possibly spend so much money?  Everything we ever wanted?  How about the needs of our family and friends?  There will be long lines of people we don’t even know.  How about the hungry, homeless and victims of abuse, including far too many animals?  The next day we would have the same amount deposited in our bank account.

Isn’t the above scenario just the figment of a very fertile imagination?  In reality about as real as Santa Claus, the tooth fairy and storks delivering babies down the chimneys?

Actually, this spending game is very real.  It’s a game each of us plays every day.  It’s a game we all win at but aren’t necessarily aware of its amazing value.

This daily prize: TIME.

Every morning 86,400 SECONDS are deposited into our personal account.  When we go to bed that evening, the time we have not used is forever gone.  The next morning we have another 86,400 seconds in our account.  But we must remember that this account can be ended at any moment.

What will lovely Lois and I do, with all of you, this Christmas season and every day beyond with this incredibly precious gift of TIME?

Will we spend this gift wisely?  On things that have great value to others.  Write down your Christmas shopping list with such gifts to others as love, beauty, compassion, hope, nature, family, friends, peace, sharing, thoughtfulness, encouragement, positive energy, etc.  Use your prize of Time wisely.  We have nothing of lasting value without time and we never know when the daily deposit will end.

Use your precious Time to soar like a majestic eagle over yourself and others.
