Earlville Opera HouseBy Patricia Lockwood-Blais, Executive Director

(Earlville, NY – Jan. 2015) As the Earlville Opera House ends another successful year of celebrating music and art in all its forms, we turned to the books for an overview of our mutually beneficial relationship with the CNY community.

Income from gift shop sales and the annual holiday sale was more than $28,000 this year, with almost $19,000 going directly to local artists.  Additionally, on behalf of our artists, we collected over $2,200 in sales taxes supporting local and state government.  All of this money gets infused into the local economy, and the EOH share helps us present the best of the arts for your enjoyment.

Since 1972, the Opera House has operated as a volunteer-based, not-for-profit organization with a dual mission:  to provide the highest quality arts, cultural, and entertainment events to our rural constituency, and to renovate and preserve the historic theater, which was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.  In 1976, the Opera House saw its first live performance in more than fifty years, and nearly 40 years later, it is the pride of the Central New York community and a true focal point for the arts.

Thanks to our patrons and members, to our artists and musicians, to the local businesses that support us with sponsorships and advertising, and to the volunteers who help with everything from mailings to baking cakes, the Opera House is better than ever 123 years after it was built.

We thank you for contributing to our success, and we invite you to join us in 2015:  experience the exhilaration of live music, the beauty and inspiration of art, and the satisfaction of volunteering for an historic masterpiece that lives on through the people it continues to serve.  Happy 2015.

The Opera House is located at 18 East Main Street in Earlville.  The first gallery exhibits of 2015 will open on Jan. 31 featuring Dorene Quinn, Peter Leone, and KidsART from local elementary schools.

Gallery hours are 10-5 Tuesday-Friday and 12-3 on Saturdays.  Admission is free, and the EOH is wheelchair-accessible with a ramp and a lift.
