(Morrisville, NY – March 2015) Former Syracuse University star quarterback and 2008 College Football Hall of Fame inductee, Donald McPherson, will be speaking to an audience at Morrisville State College at 7 p.m. in the John W. Stewart Center for Student Activities Theater on Tuesday March 31, addressing male violence against women.

McPherson, who has been speaking out on the topic since 1995, was drawn to the matter through his work as the Director of the Sport in Society’s Mentors in Violence Prevention Program.

Over the past 20 years McPherson has become a national leader and a highly sought after speaker on the topic of violence against women.  A regular within the NCAA speaking circuit, he has presented to more than 250 college campuses, including a previous appearance at Morrisville State in 2004.

In addition to his campus speaking engagements, McPherson has been a guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show and has testified before Congress twice.  He has also worked closely with the U.S. Department of Education and Defense on issues of sexual violence in education and in the military.

In addition to his advocacy work, McPherson has worked as a college football analyst for ESPN, BET, NBC, and spent six seasons as the lead studio analyst for Sportsnet, New York’s coverage of Big East and American Athletic Conference football.

During his playing career at Syracuse University, McPherson was captain of the historic undefeated 1987 team.  He set 22 school records and led the nation in passing, earning more than 18 player of the year awards which carried him to a finalist position in the 1988 Heisman Award balloting.  Syracuse retired his jersey (#9) in 2013, one of only five jerseys ever retired by the program.

The event is open to the public.
