Palomino Carlos(Canastota, NY – March 2015) The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced Hall of Fame welterweight champion Carlos Palomino will return to Canastota to attend festivities planned for the 2015 Hall of Fame Induction Weekend June 11 to 14.

“Carlos Palomino was a key player in the talent rich welterweight division of the 1970s,” said Hall of Fame director Edward Brophy. “We’re thrilled that he will return to ‘Boxing’s Hometown’ from the West Coast to participate in Hall of Fame Weekend events.”

Born in Mexico and raised in California, Palomino was All-Army welterweight champion in 1971 and 1972 before turning pro in 1972. He won the WBC welterweight title from John H. Stracey (TKO 12) in 1976. He reigned until 1979, successfully defending the crown seven times. Managed by Jackie McCoy, Palomino compiled a 31-4-3 (19 KOs) record that includes wins over Armando Muniz and Dave “Boy” Green. In retirement, Palomino, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004, has found success as an actor, appearing in many movies, television shows and plays.
