HR-Hamilton(Hamilton, NY – March 2015) Saturday, March 14 (3-14-15) was a special Pi Day.  It was unusual because the date reflects the first 4 decimals of Pi, and that happens only every 100 years.  “π” (pi) is the symbol used in math to represent a constant, the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter (which is approximately 3.14159).

Students in Hamilton celebrated with “Pizza Pi(e) for Prevention!”  Hamilton Youth Action Advisors, with the Hamilton Area Community Coalition (HACC), gave out pizza to movie goers.  The mission of the HACC is a collaborative community effort to ensure the well-being of our community’s underage youth. This is achieved by reducing high risk consumption of alcohol and other drugs, as well as the negative behaviors associated with use.

About 160 people who attended the Hamilton Theater matinee shows were greeted by students in grades 5-12 from Hamilton Central School and from Boy Scout Troop 120.  They were offered free pizza and literature on Teen Drug Use encouraging parents to talk to their kids about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

Thanks to the donations from local pizza vendors (VJ’s Restaurant, Oliveri’s Pizzeria and Pizza Hut) and the Hamilton Theater, they all made the event possible.
