(Oneida, NY- March 2015) The YMCA of the Greater Tri Valley is pleased to announce that Bruce Stewart, D.D.S. will be the presenting sponsor for the April 4 Don Connelly Determination Celebration to be held at Vernon Downs Hotel Event Center.
This event honors the spirit and legacy of long-time member, Don Connelly.
Connelly overcame many challenges in his life, having suffered from Post-Polio Syndrome, and used the Y as his place of wellness both physically and spiritually.
Each year since Connelly’s passing the Y awards members who have also overcome challenges and obstacles with the “Don Connelly Determination Award.”
This year the Y will recognize eleven members from its Rome, Oneida and New Hartford locations: Ray Bowers, Theresa Kelly, Luis Ramirez, Renee Werner, Heidi Acosta, Larry Armstrong, Jean Hart, Virginia Spraker, Bob Wilde, Connor Moon and Basim Omeragic.
“It is with great pleasure that we recognize our members, who like Mr. Connelly, have overcome obstacles with determination,” said John Elberson, Director of Development. “This is a great opportunity to celebrate their successes while also raising awareness for the Y’s Heroes Campaign.”
Proceeds from the event benefit the Y’s Heroes Campaign that provides financial assistance for those who cannot afford programs and services. Each year the Y awards approximately $200,000 to those in need in the communities.
