(Oneida, NY – In recognition of the American Library Association’s National Library Week, Oneida Public Library will forgive all overdue fines on OPL’s books and materials that are returned during the week of April 13-18, whether they were borrowed 9 weeks or 9 years ago.

The OPL can waive fines only for its own books, magazines, DVDs and books on tape, not for materials borrowed from other libraries.

Lincoln’s death is subject of OPL’s ‘Poetry Hour’

The Poetry Hour at Oneida Public Library commemorates the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s death with a discussion of selected poetry honoring the man and his role in the Civil War on Thursday, April 16, at 7:00 p.m.

The discussion leader, OPL Assistant Director Tom Murray, has selected poems by Walt Whitman, Herman Melville, Julia Ward Howe, William Cullen Bryant and other contemporaries moved by the President’s assassination on April 15, 1865.

The program is free and open to all. Refreshments will be shared.

 OPL’s After-school Science brings April showers

The Mad Professor, Jen Herzog, returns to Oneida Public Library to reveal the causes and effects of rain to elementary- and middle-school students in the April Showers edition of After-school Science on Tuesday, April 21, at 4 p.m.

Herzog, professor of biology at Herkimer County Community College, will also lead a hands-on experiment to illustrate the process of precipitation.

Materials will be provided.
