MCCPaperLogo--CUTOUT(Madison County, NY – April 2015) Madison County Reads Ahead has an immediate need for volunteers to tutor adults seeking their high school equivalency. We currently have 10 adults on a waiting list for tutors in the Oneida and Canastota area, with more calls coming in. These adults are ready to take that next big step. Education is powerful and provides many opportunities; please think about sharing your time and talents! Come hear about our program and then decide if it is right for you.

Our next training session is Tuesday May 12 and Wednesday May 13 from 6:30 to  8:30 p.m. at the Gorman Community Center in the Oneida Northside Shopping Plaza. Attendance at both evenings is preferable. We will also cover the topic of English as a Second Language at this training, for those interested in working with that population.

A once a week commitment of 2-3 hours can make a huge difference to those seeking to finish their studies and obtain their high school diploma! Please consider volunteering your time to assist adults in your community.  Training, materials, and expert on-going guidance through every step of the process are provided. Tutoring takes place at your local library.  We work with your schedule to match learners and tutors.

Although the current needs are in Oneida and Canastota, this training is open to anyone wishing to volunteer with MCRA in Madison County. We provide one-to-one tutoring in many areas of the county and are always looking to add to our pool of tutors.

To sign up to attend, or if you have questions, please contact Tara Truett, Program Director at ttruett@midyork.org or call 315.345.1468
