Barb and Jeannette 2015(Boonville, NY – June 2015) Pictured are Barbara Ferris ( left), treasurer of the Boonville Black River Canal Museum Board of Trustees and Jeannette Remp Sawyer.  Sawyer presented to Ferris documentation of 109 shares (approximately $3,000 plus) of stock from the Kenneth V. Sawyer and Jeannette Remp Sawyer Revocable Trust, Jeannette Remp Sawyer, Trustee.  This gift to the museum is made in memory of Leo E. Remp Sr., the father of Sawyer and her uncle, Roscoe Clark.

Remp and Clark’s homestead is where the 5 combines on State Route 26 are located.  Remp was one of the last men who had worked on the Black River Canal.  He was also one of the youngest to own a canal boat and horse.  He furnished much of the information to authors, such as Thomas O’Donnell, who wrote “Snubbing Post: An informal history of the Black River Canal.”  Clark spent many years as a lock tender at the 5 combines.  Their names are two of many listed on documentation at the museum.

The Boonville Black River Canal Museum Board of Trustees would like to publically thank Sawyer for her generous donation of stock.  This stock will help the Museum attain their financial goals.

The Boonville Black River Canal Museum is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization and rely on donations to “keep their doors open”.  The Museum has been fortunate to receive grants from the Pratt Northam Foundation, The Community Foundation of Oneida and Herkimer Counties, Iroquois Pipeline and Oneida County Tourism.  The Museum is also very grateful to their membership and visitors for their generous donations.  If you are looking to donate stocks, money or to become a member, please call Barbara Ferris, Treasurer at (315)392-4639.   All donations will be gratefully accepted.
