Oneida Housing project(Oneida, NY – June 30, 2015) A ground breaking was held Monday June 29 for the new affordable workforce housing project under construction on North Warner Street and developed by Stoneleigh Housing, Inc and Kinderhook Development, LLC.  The project will consist of one, two and three bedroom units with rents ranging from $450 to $700.  Priority for occupancy will be given to qualified victims of the Summer 2013 Severe Storm.

The project, designed by Raymond Scruton Architects, a division of Zausmer Frisch, is being constructed by Celia Construction with construction financing provided by NBT Bank.  Permanent financing will come from NYS Homes and Community Renewal, NYSERDA grant funds and equity from the sale of federal housing tax credits by Boston Capital Corporation.

Donna Bonfardeci of Kinderhook Development outlined the efforts and the collaboration between the city of Oneida and Madison County officials to make this project a success.  Of specific mention were John M. Becker, Chairman of the Madison County Board of Supervisors and Kipp Hicks, Director of the Madison County IDA for making this project a priority with the CNY Regional Economic Development Council and James Zecca, Director of the Madison County Department of Solid Waste and Sanitation for his assistance and ties with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and reduction in tipping fees.

Also mentioned was Scott Ingmire, Director of the Madison County Planning Department, for the ties to the Rail Trail Grant and Smart Growth principles implemented in the city of Oneida and surrounding areas of the county.

Bonfardeci wrapped up her comments with kudos to the city planner, Cassie Rose for her knowledge, guidance and tireless efforts in bringing revitalization to the city’s downtown core and to Mayor “Max” Smith for his love, passion and concern for the residents of the city.

“He worries every time we get heavy rains, and what will happen next is hopefully lessened by the creation of this housing,” Bonfardeci said.

In her closing comments, she summarized that the efforts of many should be held up for all to see.  Great things can and do happen when there are common goals, and Madison County and the city of Oneida are great places to live and raise a family.
