Defensive Lineman, Reserve Quarterback Selected to Hampshire Honor Society

Colgate footballers Ben Andersen and Ty Edmond were named to the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame’s Hampshire Honor Society.

Andersen after the season was named to the 14-man Academic All-Patriot League team for the second straight year, and then added his name to the FCS Athletics Directors Academic All-Star Team.

For the season, the defensive lineman posted 11 tackles. He batted down a pair of pass attempts, blocked a kick, contributed one quarterback hurry and shared a sack. Andersen started in the 2015 opener at Navy and played in all26 games over his last two seasons.

Edmond this week was a multiple winner during the 2016 Colgate Awards Convocation. He earned the Bernard and Sydell Citron Pre-Medical Scholastic Prize, the John T. (Jack) Mitchell Memorial Award and the William E. and Nellie K. Edmonston Neuroscience Award.

The reserve quarterback also held for all Colgate field goals and extra-point kicks. He was a double 4.0 grade-point average honoree on the Colgate Raider Academic Honor Roll.

Qualifications for membership in the NFF Hampshire Honor Society include:

  • Being a starter or a significant contributor in one’s last year of eligibility (or a senior who has declared for the NFL Draft)  at an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III or an NAIA college or university;
  • Achieving a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average throughout entire course of undergraduate study; and
  • Meeting all NCAA/NAIA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.

Andersen is graduating in May with a degree in economics, while Edmond is graduating with a neuroscience degree.
