The excitement continues to build for the 2016 Boxing Hall of Fame Induction scheduled for June 9 through 12 in Canastota.

One of the many events planned for the four-day celebration is the 21st annual Nate Race and Fun Run, held in conjunction with the Canastota Running Club, Saturday, June 11, at 8:30 a.m.

More than 500 runners will compete in the race, which weaves through the streets of Canastota. Fans have the unique opportunity to participate in the run with boxing personalities. Awards will be presented to top finishers and many door prizes will be given away. In addition to the 5K and Fun Run, this year will also feature a 12K race for long distance runners.

“Irish” Micky Ward is among the celebrity boxers set to run the 5K race.

“It’s great for fans to join in with boxing celebrities like Micky Ward in a run through the streets of ‘Boxing’s Hometown,’” said Hall of Fame director Ed Brophy. “It will be a great day for all.”

Additional events planned for the weekend include a banquet, parade, golf tournament, boxing autograph card show, cocktail party and the Official Induction Ceremony honoring the Class of 2016.

An impressive list of over 40 boxing stars from the United States and abroad, includingSugar Ray Leonard, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker, Leon and Michael Spinks, Christy Martin and Andrew Golota are scheduled to participate in the weekend.
