colgate_logoU.S. Rowing announced this week that Lauren Schmetterling ’10 has been selected as a U.S. women’s eight crew member for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The selection adds to Schmetterling’s accomplishments since graduation from Colgate.

Schmetterling aided the U.S. women’s eight to a record-setting gold medal performance at the World Rowing Cup #3 in Switzerland in 2013. The Moorestown, N.J. native collected another gold medal in 2013 at the World Rowing Championship in South Korea.

She then assisted the U.S. women’s eight to a ninth consecutive first-place trophy at an Olympic Games or world event when the crew took home gold at the 2014 World Rowing Championship in Amsterdam.

“All of us at Colgate are extremely proud of Lauren’s accomplishments,” Raiders head coach Greg Kruczynski said. “I look forward to watching her represent the U.S. this summer in Rio. No one has worked harder than Lauren to achieve her dreams, and no one is more deserving. The entire Colgate rowing family wishes her the best.”

In 2015, Schmetterling was chosen as the U.S. Rowing Fan’s Choice National Team Member of the Year. This award was voted on and presented to the team member who most embodies excellence in rowing.
