Assemblyman Bill Magee (D-Nelson) announced that his bill to transfer ownership of the Madison County Sewer District to the town of Cazenovia has passed the Assembly (A.9539). The transfer requires state approval and will shift the district’s assets, obligations and liabilities to the town of Cazenovia.
“It makes little sense for Madison County to have control of the sewage treatment plant,” said Magee. “This transfer will give Cazenovia residents a greater voice regarding rates and other important decisions by helping restore local control.”
The sewer district covers only a small portion of Madison County. It consists of the village of Cazenovia and parts of the towns of Cazenovia and Nelson. This common-sense transfer will help cut down on unnecessary bureaucracy, said Magee.
