COLGATE C-GATEFirst Campaign in New Facility Begins Oct. 1-2 Against New Hampshire

Four opponents from last season’s NCAA championship bracket and the opening season in the Class of 1965 Arena highlight Colgate’s 2016-17 women’s hockey schedule.

The Raiders begin at home Oct. 1-2 against New Hampshire as part of Homecoming weekend, featuring the unveiling of Colgate’s new $37.8 million Class of 1965 Arena. The Raiders play 17 games inside their sparkling new 2,000-seat arena that replaces Starr Rink, home to Colgate Women’s Hockey since the program’s inception back in 1997-98.

“We are eager to get this season started as it’s another year of great competition,” head coach Greg Fargo said. “There is no better way to do it than to kick things off in the brand new Class of 1965 Arena against UNH on Homecoming weekend.

“Every game has meaning; every game is important – that’s the beauty of college hockey. You have to show up every day and play. In our league, the playoff race starts right from Game 1, and this year our league will be tighter than ever. We are looking forward to the challenge of trying to finish at the top but we will have to get through some very strong conference rivals along the way.”

Four Opponents from 2016 NCAA Tourney

Colgate’s also takes on half the 2016 NCAA tournament field, with games against Clarkson, Mercyhurst, Princeton and Quinnipiac. Clarkson advanced to the national semifinals, while Quinnipiac earned a top-four seed among the eight NCAA tourney participants.

The Raiders host Merrimack on Oct. 7-8 before facing Central New York rival Syracuse in a home-and-home series Oct. 21-22. Colgate then begins ECAC Hockey competition Oct. 28 at Union and Oct. 29 at RPI.

The conference home opener is Nov. 1 against rival Cornell, followed by a Nov. 4-5 home-and-home series against RIT. Next up is a challenging road trip that includes games against NCAA tourney teams Princeton (Nov. 18), Quinnipiac (Nov. 19) and Mercyhurst (Nov. 22-23).

Colgate opens the 2017 portion of its slate with a Jan. 6-7 trip to St. Cloud State, after which the Raiders face all ECAC Hockey foes leading into Senior Day on Feb. 18 against St. Lawrence.

The ECAC Hockey tournament starts Feb. 24.
