Today’s Options created the competition to honor individuals who help older adults in Central New York live healthier and happier lives.

He or she will be honored at the New York State Fair’s Chevy Court on Aug. 30 before the Survivor concert at 2 p.m. The winner will present a $10,000 donation to his or her chosen charitable organization at that time.

“We are proud of the work being done by this year’s Today’s Options Champions,” said James Mackenzie, SVP of Sales for Today’s Options. “Each of our finalists deserves recognition and will be honored at the Syracuse Chiefs game onAug. 4. The public can get involved by reading the Champions’ personal stories on our website and voting for one Grand Champion.”

Today’s Options Champions are Central New York residents who are examples of how one person can make a difference in the lives of older adults. The competition is a way to recognize people who share Todays Options’ goals of improving quality of life and maximizing access to services for seniors and people with Medicare.

Meet the Five Today’s Options Champions:

  • Mary Beth Anderson (Fayetteville) – Mary Beth Anderson leads the way in welcoming active older adults at the Syracuse YMCA community to a home away from home. Mary Beth’s goal is to have a place where everyone is welcome and to create programs that give each individual the tools they need to live a healthy and high-functioning life through the YMCA.
  • Mary Anne Corasaniti (Fayetteville) – Mary Anne Corasaniti’s lifelong mission is to see that older adults in Central New York are honored, respected and valued. Through her work with the Elder Abuse Program at Vera House, she is a tireless advocate and voice for victims of elder abuse. Mary Anne pursues justice for victims and the right of older adults everywhere to live with dignity – free of the fear of abuse, neglect or exploitation.
  • Donna Denison (Cazenovia) – Without Donna Denison and Multiple Sclerosis Resources of Central New York, many patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) in the Syracuse area would be facing the challenges of their illness alone. As an older adult with MS, Donna has dedicated her life to helping others who suffer from the same disease.
  • Ralph Rotella (North Syracuse) – When Ralph Rotella began working with the Rescue Mission Alliance, he could not have imagined the impact he would have one day on his local community and so many older adults. As an owner of the Discount Shoe Repair shop in Onondaga County, Ralph directs his well-honed skill as a shoe repairman and his passion for helping others into his volunteer work with the Rescue Mission.
  • John Ryan (East Syracuse) – For John Ryan, retirement opened the door to full-time volunteer work. His long career as a mechanical engineer for General Electric kept him busy for 40 years. Now John spends his time as an active volunteer helping seniors and many others at the James Square Health and Rehabilitation Centre and numerous other local community organizations in Onondaga County.
