It’s that time again – time for the Gus Macker basketball tournament! Whether you’re participating, volunteering or attending, the tournament is a fun time for all, and it raises money for a local teen center, the CanTeen.

The first Gus Macker basketball tournament was held in a Michigan driveway in 1974. It has since grown into a national organization, sponsoring fundraising events in over 75 cities. Since 1987, these tournaments have raised over $15 million for local charities.[1] It retains its original spirit as a three-on-three competition in which anyone can participate.

The funds raised from this event will be donated to the CanTeen, an after-school safe space for teens in grades eight through 12. The Gus Macker basketball tournament has been an annual event since 2010, ensuring the CanTeen can continue serving young people in our community.

This year’s Gus Macker tournament will be held in front of Cicero-North Syracuse High School at 6002 State Route 31 in Cicero on Aug. 13-14. In addition to the tournament, there will be a dance team performance, dance contests, the Mascot Game and the Buffalo Wild Wings Blazin’ Challenge, as well as food and other activities.[2] I am looking forward to attending and cheering on the players at this family-friendly event.
