Caz libraryThe Cazenovia Public Library invites you to step back in time…

Every town has a story to tell. Photography can offer valuable glimpses into the past, capturing significant moments, forgotten places, and lifestyles long gone. Historic images help to develop our understanding of local history and to define our community identity. This spring the Cazenovia Public Library created a unique collection of postcards featuring ten historic images; each photograph represents a chapter of Cazenovia’s own unique story. This project explores the town’s richly textured history through the buildings, places, and people that have proven integral to its development. These postcards are now available for sale at the Library circulation desk.

The newly released postcard series features high-resolution photographs selected from Cazenovia Public Library’s Archive Room. Located on the building’s ground floor, the archives contain a wealth of information on the Cazenovia area. In addition to historic photographs, materials include family files, cemetery lists, land deeds, maps, books by local authors, diaries, letters, local history files, microfilm versions of Cazenovia newspapers, and more.

The selected photographs are representations of mid-nineteenth to early-twentieth century Cazenovia. The postcards are currently on display at the entrance to the Library’s gallery. The complete collection includes “West Shore Station,” “The Village Pier,” “Lincklaen House, 1866,” “Legion Post 88 Band,” “Cows on Main,” Cazenovia House Kitchen,” “The Sunken Canoe,” “Cazenovia Canning Factory,” “West on Albany St, c. 1890,” and “Chittenango Falls.” Individual postcards are available for $1.50. Purchase one of each or mix and match ten cards for $12.50. Visitcazenoviapubliclibrary.org/postcards to learn about each image and for suggestions for further research.
