Earlville Troop 5 Boy Scouts GettysburgAfter several months of fundraising and planning, the Earlville Troop 5 Boy Scouts set out on a week-long adventure to discover Historic Gettysburg!

On the list of things to do for the week, the Troop explored three different hiking trails through Gettysburg and also visited two parks as part of the Boy Scouts of America Heritage Trail Program. They visited the Museum & Visitor Center as well as the Eisenhower National Historic Site. They also hiked the Billy Yank Trail (10 miles), the Johnny Reb Trail (4 miles) and completed the Historic Gettysburg Trail (4 miles).

The Troop departed Earlville early on the morning of August 8 and returned home the evening of August 13. After hiking several trails and exploring Downtown Gettysburg, the boys determined that they had spent almost 50 miles on their feet. Though the hot, humid weather took a toll on the Scouts at times, they persevered and made it through – learning more about the Civil War than they could ever imagine!

An experience of a lifetime, the Boy Scouts are grateful for the support of their Troop Leaders, parents and families and the local community in order to make this trip possible.
