COLGATE C-GATEColgate field hockey junior goalkeeper Maria Krull (Leicester, Mass.) was selected to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team, as announced by the league office Tuesday, Aug. 23.

In addition, the Raiders were picked to finish seventh in the league’s preseason poll. Defending champion Boston University was picked to finish first with nine of the 14 first place votes.

“Maria has worked incredibly hard during the off season and is ready to make a jump to the next level,” Colgate field hockey head coach Cathy Foto said. “She is an excellent communicator and runs our defense.”

“She understands the game at an extremely high level and her games sense is tremendous. She is always striving to get the best out of herself and her teammates.”

Krull and Lafayette goalkeeper Katelyn Arnold tied in the voting for the goalkeeping position in all-league preseason voting.

Last season, Krull took over the reigns in the cage after replacing four-year starter Amanda DiDomizio who graduated after the 2014 season. Krull shined as she led the NCAA in saves per game with 11.50. Krull also led the Patriot League in saves with 161 and save percentage at .752 during the 2015 season. She recorded double-digit saves in 11 games including a career-high 19 against Lock Haven on Sept. 12.

The Raiders open up the 2016 season with a pair of games at Tyler’s Field this weekend, first hosting Bryant on Friday, August 26 at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Sunday matinee with Hofstra at noon.
