Housekeeping that ensures the preservation of historic building interiors is carried out with materials and using methods that do not harm surfaces being cleaned or delicate objects nearby. Those who maintain historic homes and buildings should practice preventive care, especially inside, where cleaning is a regular occurrence.

Oneida Community Mansion House is sponsoring a historic preservation workshop with Jackie Roshia, preservation expert and curator at Lorenzo State Historic Site, who will demonstrate best methods and materials for preventative care of old and historically significant houses and other building interiors.

The workshop is open to all (15 and older), but will be of special interest to those who care for older homes and buildings. Admission is $10 for OCMH members and $15 for all others. Attendees should register by September 12 by calling 315-363-0745. The workshop will be held in the Mansion House dining room. Attendees are welcome to bring a bag lunch.

The Oneida Community Mansion House was the residence of the 19th century utopian Oneida Community (1848 – 1880). Today, OCMH is a National Historic Landmark and educational not-profit [501(c)3] organization chartered by the New York State Department of Education. OCMH preserves, collects and interprets material culture, intangible heritage, and five historic buildings, situated on 33 landscaped lawns and gardens.
