It is also an opportunity for those artists to express their thoughts and feelings through the arts. State and voluntary agencies from Oneida, Herkimer and Madison counties participate in this program. The Exceptional Artworks Program Committee is comprised of representatives from seven agencies including The CNY DSO; Oneida-Lewis Chapter, NY-SARC; Madison-Cortland ARC; Herkimer County Resource Center for Independent Living; Heritage Farms; ARISE (Madison County). An artist’s reception will be held on Wednesday, September 7 at 10am for the artists and the public.

Nothing says summer like the taste of fresh tomatoes from the vine. Did you know there are over 350 different varieties of tomatoes all with their own unique flavor? Share some of your favorites from this year’s garden at the library! We are planning our First Annual Tomato Tasting on Friday, September 9 beginning at 10am and going on all day. Stop in to taste and let us know which variety you like best. And, be part of the tasting by bringing in 4 or 5 tomatoes from your garden so we can taste them. Just remember to include your name and the variety of tomato. Tomatoes can be dropped off at the library the day prior to the event.

The Canastota Seed Exchange wants patrons to know that they will accept all donated seeds throughout the year at the Main Desk of the library. Donors should place seeds in an envelope with their name and contact information as well as the type/name of the seeds and the year and location that the seed when the seed was collected. While all donations are appreciated, the Seed Exchange is especially focused on open pollinated and/or heirloom flower and vegetable seeds. Donors may also offer the library already open seed packets if they have been stored in a cool, dry environment and are less than two years old. During this past growing season, the Seed Exchange recorded 60 new members. Over 700 seed packets of 300 varieties of seeds were distributed.
