academicsKelly Furlong, ofCazenovia, recently spent time in Granada, Spain, for Susquehanna University’s cross-cultural requirement. Furlong designed her own program, in which she took Spanish-intensive classes at the Don Quijote Language School and lived with a Spanish host family. While in Granada, she studied Spanish culture by interacting with local citizens and visiting historical sites.

Susquehanna is distinguished by its Global Opportunities (GO) program, which requires that all students spend at least two weeks off campus, immersed in a culture different from their own. The GO Your Own Way option allows students to fill this requirement through a self-designed program, or a study away, internship or service trip that is not offered through the university. Students reflect upon their experiences when they return, guided by faculty members and coursework that promotes discovery and personal growth. For more information, visitwww.susqu.edu/GO.

Furlong is an international studies major in the Class of 2017. A 2013 graduate of Cazenovia Central High School, she is the daughter of Denise and William Furlong.
