Sheriff Riley at VINE Conference 0415Sheriff asks public: “How are we doing?”

Did you need help and have a Deputy Sheriff respond? Madison County Sheriff Allen Riley wants to know about your experience. Starting this month, residents of Madison County may get a phone call asking just that.

Sheriff Riley has directed that senior supervisors with his Office make contact with citizens who have called for services of the Sheriff’s Office to discuss the performance of its members. The phone contact will be made from randomly selected calls for service by each Deputy Sheriff and Investigator, without bias. “Citizens are our customers” said Riley; “and our customers are different and diverse – my command staff and I want to make certain our Deputy Sheriffs and Investigators are doing the right thing out there. It’s our responsibility to follow up, just like you expect your auto dealership to do after getting repairs done. We are responsible not only to our Board of Supervisors, but to our great citizens, businesses and tourists for effective, efficient, professional and, above all, accountable performance.”

The information will be used in evaluating trends and performance, noted Riley. “It is certainly in our best interest to know how our members are performing. In today’s day and age, it’s critical that we, as law enforcement executives, know how our Office can best respond to the needs of our community. We need to be objective, take the good with the not-so-good.”

“This is a phone survey, and I know that overall, the public hates getting these types of calls” the Sheriff said. “Please, take a few minutes and talk to our supervisor – this is important for us as a community. If you prefer, take the name and number of the supervisor who is calling and tell them you will call them back; so you can verify that the number you are dialing is in-fact the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

”Information will be reviewed by Sheriff’s Office command staff, and will be used to identify trends, training needs, or remediation needed by individual deputies. It will also be used to extend appreciation to those deputies and investigators who, day after day, go above and beyond the minimum effort needed, said Riley.
