More than 200 leaders from federal, state, tribal and local law enforcement and homeland security agencies from Canada and the United States, gathered to learn about new strategies, the latest technologies, and available resources all in the interest of public safety.

Participants heard from vendors on the latest technology, along with representatives of law enforcement experienced in current trends in terrorism, intelligence gathering and sharing, major crime trends, and counter terrorism programs.

“This summit provides a unique opportunity for all of our law enforcement and homeland security partners. Each year we gather to exchange intelligence, take a closer look at past events, and talk about possible future threats to further protect the communities we serve,” said New York State Police Superintendent George P. Beach II. “The New York State Police remains committed to holding events and forums like the Intelligence Summit, and remain vigilant in fighting the threats to people in our great state.”

“Given the complex threat environment in New York, including recent threats involving the use of improvised explosive devices, it is more important than ever to bring local, state and federal partners together to share information so that collectively we can protect New Yorkers.” said John P. Melville, Commissioner of the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services. “DHSES is proud to support the New York State Police in their efforts to bring our partners together for this important information sharing event.”

“The successful collaboration of law enforcement depends on forums like this one,” said Andrew W. Vale, Special Agent in Charge, FBI—Albany Division. “The opportunity to meet with our federal, state and local partners to discuss the work we have done, the obstacles we have overcome and the challenges we have yet to face is invaluable when trying to meet ever-changing threats.”

The New York State Intelligence Summit was held on Tuesday, September 27 and Wednesday, September 28, 2016. This year’s opening remarks were provided by Superintendent Beach, New York State Deputy Secretary for Public Safety, Rachel Small, Commissioner Melville, and Mr. Steven Lanser, Assistant Special Agent in Charge, FBI Buffalo.
