The Greater Oneida Chamber of Commerce has named Campanie & Wayland-Smith PLLC Business of the Month for October.

John Campanie and Tina Wayland-Smith, natives of Oneida and Sherrill respectively, formed Campanie & Wayland-Smith, PLLC in 2000 after many years as principals at the former Kiley Law Firm of Oneida. At CWS, their focus is on serving the greater Central New York Community in the areas of general business, corporate, not-for-profit law, contracts, municipal law, matrimonial law, bankruptcy, collections, litigation, real estate, and wills and estates.

Both are active members of the communities in which they live and practice, participating in numerous civic and professional organizations. They are joined in the practice by three specialized paralegals, Kathy Smith, Lois Reed-Kaplanoff and Mary Ellen Mead, each of whom have decades of experience in their areas of concentration.

While having wide experience and handling diverse legal matters, at Campanie and Wayland-Smith, John Campanie concentrates his practice in three primary areas– business, commercial and transactional law and municipal law.  He has been Madison County Attorney since 1987 where he serves as the chief civil legal officer and advisor to the County and its numerous departments and agencies; and has been the City Attorney for the City of Sherrill since 2000.

Mr. Campanie has served in the leadership in the National Association of Counties; as President of the County Attorneys Association of the State of New York where he has been a member of its governing board since 1988; is the Past President of the Madison County Bar Association; and has served as a member and in leadership positions in a variety of community endeavors. His business career included managing the export and military divisions of Oneida Ltd, covering exports to 50+ countries. He is a lifelong resident of the City of Oneida.

Tina Wayland-Smith was the first woman principal in the 40-year existence of The Kiley Law Firm.   Her practice is primarily concentrated in the areas of matrimonial law, family law, civil litigation, adoption, and bankruptcy.  Ms. Wayland-Smith is also the First Assistant County Attorney in and for the County of Madison, a position she has held since 1990, and serves as the Town Attorney for the Town of Brookfield.

Ms. Wayland-Smith is a member of the Oneida Rotary Club, is a member and the secretary of the City of Oneida Youth Court Board of Directors, was the Chairperson and a Director of the Oneida Community Mansion House.  She is also a member of the New York State Bar, member and former president of the Madison County Bar Association, member of the Oneida County Bar Association, a former member of the New York State House of Delegates, and a member of the Independent Judicial Election Qualification Commission for the Third Department.

The Member of the Month program is part of an ongoing effort by the Greater Oneida Chamber of Commerce to honor a deserving member business each month for their contribution to the quality of life and economy of our community.
