cross-church1-150x150The annual CROP Hunger Walk organized by the Canastota Area Association of Churches was held Sunday, Oct. 16. The walk began at 1:30 p.m. from the United Church, 144 West Center St., where walkers gathered afterward to enjoy cider and doughnuts graciously provided by the Canastota Tops Market.

At last count, the drive raised approximately $2,100. Of this, 25 percent of funds raised locally will be returned to local programs including the Compassion Connection food pantry, the Loaves and Fishes soup kitchen and the Opportunity Shop thrift store.

CROP Hunger Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by local Christians to raise funds to end hunger at home and around the world. CROP is an acronym that originally stood for Christian Rural Overseas Program but has come to represent Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty.
