solarTo the Editor:

The Madison County Planning Department invites you to attend the Madison County Solar Fair Nov. 16 at Critz Farms from 5 to 8 p.m. This unique event, with music by the Rapid River Boys and catering by Madison Bistro, will give you the opportunity to support solar in our community in a number of different ways.

SolarizeCNY is a grassroots, community-based effort to help residents throughout the five-county region of Central New York to take collective action to reduce the use of non-renewable energy sources, and shift our region to clean, sustainable energy sources. We invite you to join us in this effort.

If you’re interested in going solar, this is a perfect opportunity to find out all about it. SolarizeCNY streamlines the process for solar customers by educating them about solar energy, how it works, and how affordable it can be. This year there are two options for going solar, rooftop solar and community solar.

For rooftop solar, SolarizeCNY provides solar installers that were selected following a competitive process to ensure they met the highest standards. This year SolarizeCNY has partnered with seven solar installers; Halco, Renovus, Apex Solar, CNY Solar, Sustainable Energy Developments, Taitem Engineering and ETM Solar Works.

Attendees at the Solar Fair will have the opportunity to meet each installer, and sign up for a free solar assessment. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn about current state and federal incentives on solar panel installations at homes, farms, and businesses, and take advantage of competitive pricing discounts.

If you are unable to go solar with a rooftop solar array, SolarizeCNY is providing a community solar option for customers. You can go solar without a roof! If you rent, or if your house isn’t a good candidate for rooftop solar, community solar is a great option. The projects are coming soon, but you can sign up at the Solar Fair for updates.

Participation in the campaign doesn’t just mean going solar. For many, they help to support this grassroots effort by being a volunteer or sponsor. You can help spread the word about the campaign by hanging flyers, writing letters to the newspaper, putting out a lawn sign, and more! Attend the Madison County Solar Fair Nov. 16, and find out more about how you can participate.

Sincerely,

Sarah Krisch, Planner, Madison County Planning Department
